I check the status of current projects and liaise with my Dutch colleagues and with our manufacturers each working day. If there are any technical queries or issues, I’ll tackle these and discuss what has been detected. If a quick fix is possible then we’ll carry it out promptly, and if further investigation is required then we’ll get this underway and I’ll be the contact person throughout this process. Once an appropriate solution has been identified, I will feed this back accordingly.
Another aspect of my work entails putting product improvement suggestions to our manufacturers and to my colleagues in the Netherlands. I liaise with potential new suppliers and get them to produce a sample casting to enable us to ascertain whether they are indeed capable of providing the right standard of quality.
I’ve been working at Prins China since 2000 and have stuck around because I really enjoy my work. After studying Casting at Nanjing Institute of Technology, I joined the Jinan Casting and Forging Machinery Research Institute in 1984, where I worked until 2000.
Hence I’ve been in casting all my working life.
We embrace the first time right principle when developing samples at Prins. That requires me to carefully monitor the end-to-end process encompassing product request, production and inspection. To accomplish this I have to provide my colleagues with professional supervision as well. This challenge makes my work enjoyable. Other great aspects of my work include communicating with manufacturers and being able to provide technical support to ensure a win-win situation.
Outside of work I like playing Chinese chess, walking and meeting up with friends for a drink on a regular basis.
I’ll be retiring in July 2024 and haven’t yet decided what I’ll be doing after that. For the time being I still find coming in to work really fun and invigorating.
